Family Wild Camping: Thoughts, Photos & Video

Life has been busy lately, but one thing that we never sacrifice is spending time together out in the wild. We decided to go camping in the same place we did almost two years ago, when I was pregnant. Now having a toddler running around, life is much different but one thing that remains the same and that we have passed onto our daughter already is a deep love of time in nature.

Simple tasks like setting up a tent and collecting water for cooking feel almost meditative when done somewhere as beautiful as this. No distractions, no noise except the babble of the river and Aífe’s laughter in the distance. Sometimes I feel like life is going too fast and there isn’t enough time. Being here is a reminder to slow down, to be more present, and to be more grounded.

We actually had quite a lot planned for the weekend, but as we set off it became pretty apparent that we were all exhausted. So we decided to scrap all the plans, just hang out and take it all in. Sometimes it just happens that way. It’s good to listen to your body and be kind to yourself. Waking up in the morning, we knew we made the right decision.

Time in nature is dear to us all and remembering to slow down can be hard sometimes. It’s how we recharge — whether it’s wild camping, dog walking or just pottering around in the garden — it’s all so important.

I came away from these couple of days with this realisation…. That the longest relationship you have in life is with yourself.

So be kind.

It’s not easy sometimes, but definitely essential.
